How to Treat Dry Skin

Dry skin often feels itchy, whitish and lacks moisture. Dry skin can be easily treated, corrected and maintained. With the right treatment, dry skin can go from looking dry and boring to shiny and beautiful.

1. Moisturize
The first step to treating dry skin is to moisturize frequently. Pick a rich moisturizer and apply deep into your skin after washing. Be generous with the application; choose oil-based moisturizer. Apply a thin layer of moisturizer during the day and a thicker moisturizing cream at night.
For best results, be consistent with applying the selected moisturizer.
2. Wash your body
Avoid washing your body too much. Only wash when it is necessary.
The body produces natural oils that keep the skin from drying out. Too much washing can remove too may of the natural oils causing the skin to become dry.
Do not use soaps that contain harsh chemicals. It is best to use a mild soap. Use warm water to wash your body. Hot water can be to harsh.
3. Exfoliate
Throughout the day, our skin shed cells. Exfoliating should be done 1-2 times a week to removes the dead cells. Avoid harsh chemicals. Choose a product that is right dry skin.
4. Protect your skin from sunlight
Excessive exposure to too much sunlight can cause dry skin, irritation and skin cancer. Wear sunscreen that is at least SPF 30 to protect your skin from sunlight.
5. Drink water
Dry skin can occur as a result of dehydration. It can cause problem for the skin. Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day. An indication of proper water intake is if your urine comes out clean. If your urine is yellow or darker, then increase your water intake.
Water keeps your skin refreshed, preserved and hydrated.
